Pre-prohibition cocktails and modern twists on classics

Alaska Cocktail

alaska

Ingredients:

1.5oz Gin

.75oz Yellow Chartreuse

1 dash Orange Bitters

Lemon twist

Instructions:

Add all liquids to a mixing glass. Add ice and stir. Strain into a chilled coupe or other glass and serve straight up. Garnish with a lemon twist.

Notes:

Layers of botanicals on the nose, floral semisweet with notes of citrus and honey on the tongue, with a slightly dry finish. A simple yet complex drink, which really highlights the Chartreuse, the Alaska is a great choice when in the mood for something boozy and herbal.

History:

The Alaska cocktail is likely not named for the state, in fact by most accounts the origin actually seems unknown, with The Savoy Cocktail Book  suspecting it came from South Carolina.
