French Correspondent
Ingredients:
1oz Rye
1oz Lillet Blanc
.5oz Amaro Nonino
1 dash Simple Syrup
2 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters
Cynar (to rinse glass)
Grapefruit Twist
Instructions:
Add the bitters, simple syrup, rye, Lillet and Amaro Nonino to a mixing glass. Add ice and stir. Rinse a chilled cocktail glass with Cynar and strain the cocktail into the glass. Express the oils from the grapefruit twist and discard.
Notes:
A Manhattan variation of sorts, French Correspondent comes from Oliver Stern at the Toronto Temperance Society. Using a combination of Amaro Nonino, Lillet and a Cynar rinsed glass creates more depth and layers than sweet vermouth would provide, while also lightening the taste and look of this cocktail. The recipe calls for discarding the grapefruit twist, but it also goes well in the cocktail if more citrus is desired.
