Sugar and Spice
Ingredients:
2oz Rye
1oz Allspice Dram
3/4oz Benedictine
.5oz Fernet Branca
.25oz Grade B Maple Syrup
1 dash Angostura bitters
1 dash Bittermens Burlesque bitters
Flamed orange twist
Peat Monster scotch rinse
Instructions:
Add all liquids except scotch to a mixing glass. Add ice and stir. Rinse a chilled double Old Fashioned glass with Peat Monster (or other peated scotch). Strain into the glass over a large cube and garnish with a flamed orange twist.
Notes:
This is a nice fall/winter drink with a smokey sweet rye forward flavor that transitions to allspice and citrus. Layered and smooth, yet packing a punch greater than expected. For fans of the Vieux Carre and Manhattan, give this a try when you need to warm up from a cold day out in the elements.
